The Petersburg Department of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services is a progressive, full-service fire department. Established in 1773, the department is rich in history, tradition, and is proud to call itself one of the oldest organized fire departments in the country.
The department provides and offers a variety of services beyond just your everyday fire department. Services provided include:
The Petersburg Department of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services is also a participating member in two regional specialized operation teams: Part of the Crater Regional Hazardous Materials and Heavy Tactical Rescue teams. In the event of a local or regional disaster, the department has been charged with the lead responsibility of Emergency Management for the City of Petersburg.
Serving 33,200 residents and countless number visitors, 98 highly trained and dedicated personnel work tirelessly every day to protect our community. To accomplish our mission the department is divided into multiple specialized divisions and sub-divisions:
