Petersburg Residents prepare for Hurricane Florence


In anticipation of Hurricane Florence, we strongly encourage you to consider assembling an emergency preparation kit for your household. 

Kit Items including:
- Batteries and flashlights/lanterns
- Bottled water (1 gallon per person, per day)
- Cash (power outages could affect ATM machines)
- Non-perishable food
- First aid kit, medications and hygiene items
- Vehicle phone charger

Current forecasts call for heavy rain from Thursday into the weekend. Stay tuned to local news broadcasts for further weather updates. Take heed of all resources included below. Continuous updates will be made through this page, as well as, the City's social media channels and through the emergency alert system. 


Should the need arise, "Power Showers" will be available for Petersburg residents. This will include a designated facility for residents to visit in order to power their devices, shower, and take care of any hygienic needs. Ahead of the expected rainfall, the Department of Public Works continues to clean gutters and clear drainage and has also relocated prime equipment away from flood areas. Department of Public Works has revised their hours to allow for all necessary staffing and developed a plan with Petersburg Area Transit to determine alternative routes in case of needed mass transportation.  


At this time, the City has not opened a shelter, but has prepared to open one should the need arise.
