Dennis L. Rubin has been named the new Chief of the Petersburg Fire/Rescue
& Emergency Services Department. According to Interim City Manager Tom Tyrrell, “Dennis
Rubin impressed us with his vast experience and his strategic plans for heading the department. We look forward to working with Dennis and having him as an integral part of the Petersburg Community.” Rubin was previously Fire Chief in Atlanta, Georgia from 2003 to 2007 and Fire Chief in Washington DC from 2007 to 2011. Chief Rubin will assume his new duties on May 15, 2017.
Interim Fire Chief Brian Sturdivant has agreed to remain on the senior leadership team as the Executive Deputy Fire Chief. “Per Tyrrell, our city will be fortunate to have two such eminently qualified fire service leaders and working together we will take a high performing department to even higher levels of responsiveness; to the benefit of everyone in our community. Now we must take the next critical step and provide them with the new fire apparatus (fire trucks) our department so desperately needs.”
