Petersburg City Manager, William E. Johnson, III, announced today the selection of Mike Mee as the city’s new interim Director of Public Works and Utilities. Mee is currently the General Manager for the Department of Public Works – Utilities Division. Mee will assume the responsibility of interim director, effective Saturday, October 3, 2015.
Mee will have the responsibility of providing the overall leadership, management and operational direction to the Department of Public Works in the administration of a multi-operational City Department that includes Public Utilities (Water and Sewer), Storm Water, Engineering & Construction, Blandford Cemetery, Street Operations, Traffic Signalization and Facilities Management.
Mee was recently transferred to the position of General Manager for Public Utilities in August 2015. Prior to the transfer to Public Utilities, he served as the General Manager for Street Operations. Serving as General Manager in each of these divisions has afforded Mee the experience needed to serve in an acting capacity while the City conducts the recruitment to fill the director position permanently.
Mee has a Bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Old Dominion University.
“We are pleased that Mike has accepted this interim role,” comments Johnson. “His background and experience of over 30 years in both municipal public works operations and in the private sector will provide us with the managerial and leadership skills needed during this interim period.”
