[ARCHIVED] City of Petersburg Announces New Delinquent Tax Collections Strategy

The City of Petersburg’s Treasurer’s Office announced today the City’s new Delinquent Tax Collection Strategy, an aggressive effort to collect delinquent taxes and utility bills from customers.

“Our Administration is committed to collecting tax dollars owed to the City to pay for the vital City services for the highest quality of life for our residents and for the education of our children,” said Kevin Brown, City Treasurer.

The Treasurer’s Office will be using several collection tools to collect unpaid taxes and utility bills. The City has mailed out several notices to customers notifying them of this enforcement, and will begin to now process bank and employment liens. Lien letters will also be sent to the banks and employers. Once a lien has been processed, the City is unable to set up any payment arrangements.

The City offers several ways to pay taxes and utility bills. Taxes and utility bills can be paid online at www.petersburg-va.com (3% convenience fee, free with e-check), in person at City Hall (135 N. Union Street, open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), any SunTrust bank location and the drop box located outside of City Hall.
