The City of Petersburg announced today that Jim Reid has been named the new Fire Marshal of Petersburg’s Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services. Reid will begin city service effective April 6, 2015. As fire marshal, his duties will include overseeing inspections, investigations, plans review and public outreach.
“We are pleased to have such experienced and knowledgeable leadership coming to the helm of this department for the city. The public safety of our community is a top priority,” said Fire Chief, T.C. Hairston.
Reid brings 28 years of extensive fire, building and life safety code enforcement to the position. Reid currently serves as the Fire Marshal for the City of Hopewell. Prior to that, he served as the Deputy State Fire Marshal for the Virginia Office of State Fire Marshal where he managed inspections, office and field work in the Central Virginia region. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Management and Leadership and a second degree in Business from Bluefield College. He has received several certificates within his industry as well.
