City of Petersburg to Host Public Open House on Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance Update

The City of Petersburg invites community members to attend a public open house on Monday, November 10, 2025, to learn more about and provide feedback on the ongoing Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance Update. The open house will begin at 3:30 P.M. in the Multipurpose Room of the Petersburg Public Library. Participants are encouraged to drop in after 3:30 P.M. to review draft materials, share input, and speak directly with City staff and representatives from Berkley Group, the project consultants.
Following the adoption of the PetersburgNEXT Comprehensive Plan in May 2024, the City launched a full rewrite of its zoning and subdivision ordinances. This update is designed to ensure legal compliance with the Code of Virginia and to support the City’s long-term goals for economic development, attainable housing, and enhanced community character.
“The updated zoning and subdivision regulations are essential tools for shaping Petersburg’s future growth in a way that reflects the community’s vision,” said Jared Crews, Interim Director of Planning & Community Development. “We invite all residents, business owners, and community stakeholders to attend the open house and learn more about the proposed changes.”
The updated Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance is now available for public review and can be viewed online at http://www.petersburg-va.org/688/Current-Projects. Feedback gathered during the open house will help refine the final drafts before a joint work session between the Planning Commission and City Council in December 2025. A joint public hearing to consider adoption of the updated ordinance is anticipated in February 2026.
