The City of Petersburg is excited to announce the opening of Bon Secours Virginia Health System in the newly renovated Freedom Support Center, located at 32 W. Washington Street. The facility will start to accept patients today, December 16. The facility will provide primary medical care to active and retired military personnel and their families and all residents needing healthcare in the Petersburg and Tri-Cities region. The facility hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
State, local and military officials attended a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, December 9 for the 5,000-square-foot facility. The health facility expands the services offered to veterans at the Freedom Support Center, which is a one-stop shop for assistance with employment, housing and other needs for veterans and active duty military, and their families. Civilians can also take advantage of the primary care services offered by the health facility.
The Petersburg Freedom Support Center is an initiative from the Office of Councilman W Howard Myers.
“I commend the efforts of Petersburg City Council for their commitment and support in developing and implementing a veteran initiative that has served as a tool for sustainment for our service men and women in order to enhance their quality of life.” comments Mayor Brian A. Moore. “The vision of the Freedom Center is to serve as a benchmark facility and I attest it certainly has done so.”
Construction and renovation of the Freedom Support Center and the 5,000-square-foot facility for the new medical practice began in September. Bon Secours Freedom Healthcare Associates will include primary care physicians, specialists, preventive care, chronic disease management programs and nutrition and health education programs, such as healthy cooking classes for families.
“Connecting our military personnel and their families with the opportunity to attain housing, retrieve vital records, secure employment, prevent homelessness and now onsite healthcare, this is certainly a monumental achievement of public and private dollars.” comments Councilman W Howard Myers.
The Freedom Support Center is designed to be a one-stop resource center for military personnel, veterans and their families. Along with Bon Secours, the Virginia Employment Commission Military Affairs Unit, VA Benefits, Case Management, as well as 15 applicable Agencies and services currently located in the center, with other agencies planned to join soon.
