With continued high temperatures and the heat index in the three digits many days, the City of Petersburg’s Comfort Station is now open through the end of the summer. The Petersburg Transit Station, located at 100 West Washington Street, serves as the City’s Comfort Station for city residents and is open from 6am to 6pm, Monday through Saturday. The Transit Center has air conditioning and water available.
Food and pets (except service animals) are not allowed. The doors to the Transit Center will be open on Washington Street and the Operations side (bus boarding area). Union Street doors are closed due to construction.
City residents can ride the bus free to the Transit Center, take some time to relax, cool down from high temperatures, have some cold water and then return home on the bus.
Visitors to the Comfort Station should wear masks.
The City is also asking residents to check on their neighbors, especially senior citizens and people who have health problems during periods of extreme heat. For emergencies, please call 911.
