City of Petersburg Introduces New GIS Website

The Petersburg City Assessor’s Office is pleased to announce the implementation of a new GIS (Geographical Information System) website and an expanded offering of property information. The new website is the culmination of a two-year effort that began with the hiring of GIS Analyst, Carter Chassey, and the acquisition of ESRI software for use by City staff.

Over the past 12 months, City departments collaborated to imagine a new GIS website that could serve the needs of Petersburg residents and property owners, as well as City staff and various real estate professionals.  The implementation was accomplished with the assistance of Geodecisions, a recognized industry-leader in the design and implementation of GIS websites throughout Virginia.

The new GIS website became available on January 1, 2021 and can be easily accesses by clicking the red Real Estate Records button at www.petersburgva.gov. In addition to the property searches and views of the City’s almost 15,000 parcels, the new website displays information on schools, Council wards, historic districts, and enterprise zones.  The website also offers the option for oblique aerial imagery provided by Eagleview, an industry-leader in aerial photography.
