In preparation for the Winter season and inclement weather, the Petersburg Public Utilities Department has scheduled a critical water supply repair during the week of October 19th.
The scope of this project is to preserve the structural integrity of the transmission line, which is an essential part of the City’s water supply. Currently, there is a 16-inch transmission line that runs down West Street to the Halifax Street water storage tank. Over the past few years, 4 (four) critical leaks have occurred on this 16-inch transmission line.
Work is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, October 19, 2020 with the excavation of the site and conclude by Wednesday, October 21, 2020 with the replacement of the asphalt and repaving.
This week, Utilities staff will distribute door hangers to the impacted area concerning potential shutdown.
Citizens along the following streets are within the potentially affected areas:
• West St.
• Wilcox St.
• Stainback St.
• Lee Ave.
• Augusta Ave.
• Youngs Rd.
West St. will be closed from Farmer Street to Halifax St. while the repairs are being made.
Street Operations staff will assist with traffic control and provide detour signage.
