Petersburg Reopens Fire Station #4

hmpgFire

On Saturday, August 29th, the City of Petersburg hosted a reopening ceremony for Fire Station #4 in the Walnut Hill area of the City.

In April 2020, the City temporarily closed Fire Station #4 due to health and safety concerns. The Fire Station was experiencing severe issues with mold, asbestos, and an overall antiquated infrastructure. In May, Petersburg City Council approved an emergency requisition in the amount of $46,051 for immediate repairs to the station and work began that same month. Following a facility deep cleaning, Petersburg Fire Station #4 returned to regular operations on August 31, 2020.

Building updates include:

•  Mold and asbestos remediation

• Concrete repair along the N. side of the facility

• Drainage Reconstruction: Rain leaders have been connected to the new French Drain and all trenches have been covered with soil. This process was completed to direct water flow away from the facility.

• Clearing of trees from the backside of the property

• Updated flooring throughout the entire building

• Full kitchen update including flooring and cabinetry

The City would like to extend a BIG THANK YOU to the following community members for their generosity in helping our Fire Safety team:

- Lighthouse Furniture & Appliance Inc. in Petersburg - Donated couches and chairs for the day room and living spaces.

- Lowe’s - Donated a new grill for Station #4

- Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union - Donated $1,000

- Bill Nicholson - Donated lunch for the Station #4 Fire Team

- Lea Brantley - Whose father-in-law retired from Petersburg Fire-Rescue and worked at Station #4 made a monetary donation to the fire station.
