[ARCHIVED] Petersburg Opens Survey for Mural Recommendations

New Name_LeePark

On July 21, 2020, Petersburg City Council voted to rename Lee Memorial Park to “Petersburg Legends Historical Park and Nature Sanctuary” to honor the athletic legends from Petersburg who played and trained at the park.

This prompted Councilman Darrin Hill (Ward 2) to expand this honor by commissioning a mural to depict the athletic legends from Petersburg, Virginia.

The City would like to engage the residents of Petersburg by soliciting your recommendations for which Petersburg legends should be included in the mural.  Most of the athletes included in this survey have been inducted into the Petersburg Athletic Hall of Fame.

For the final artwork, the jerseys of the athletes will be painted and the mural will be placed at the park entrance.

Survey submissions will be accepted through Thursday, August 27th.
